English, Christianity and a Pioneer Project

John and I are really excited about a door that opened up in ministry a couple months ago and so I wanted to share about it with you. Jon Palmer, a pastor and friend of ours who lives in a city in Western Hungary, has been looking for volunteers to lead Alpha groups.

You might have heard about Alpha, which is an introduction to Christianity in a very relaxed, friendly environment. It started in England and had a huge success, even in our postmodern European culture, where most people shot down immediatly as soon as they hear words like Jesus, salvation, heaven or hell. But so anyway, the special thing about this Alpha course, is that it is designed for English speakers of other languages. This means that the course will be held in English for Hungarians who speak English. It is a really exciting opportunity, since many Hungarians are eager to learn English and I am sure will love to be part.

This type of Alpha course (ESOL) has not been around for very long. Actually Hungary is the first place where they test it in a country where English is not the main spoken language. So it is kind of a pioneer project and John and I love to be part of it. We are currently being trained by Jon Palmer, this pastor I mentioned before and are even part of contextualizing the course so that it will be culturally and linguastically adjusted to people in Hungary.

We would appreciate your prayers and will keep you updated how things develop. Please pray that our team would do an excellent job preparing and leading the groups and that we would be worthy witnesses of Jesus to every person who will take part.
